Cookie Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Some cookies are needed for a site to work at all. Others follow you around the internet to build an advertising profile.
The short version: this site only uses the first kind. We do not run advertising cookies, we do not use analytics or tracking pixels, and we do not sell or share visitor data with advertisers.
Cookies this site uses
| Name | Set by | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm |
Cloudflare, our security and hosting provider | Tells real visitors apart from automated bots so the site stays online and our forms don’t get flooded with spam. | About 30 minutes |
cf_clearance |
Cloudflare | Only appears if you were shown a security check. It records that you passed, so you are not asked again on every page. | Up to a few hours |
CF_Authorization |
Cloudflare Access | Staff only. Keeps a signed-in VICCC staff member logged in to the private admin area. It is never set for public visitors. | Until the staff session expires |
We also store one thing that is not a cookie: your answer to the
notice at the bottom of the screen is saved in your browser’s local
storage under viccc.cookie-consent. It stays on your device,
is never sent to our servers, and exists only so we stop asking you.
What “Accept” and “Essential only” mean right now
Being straight with you: today there is nothing optional to turn off. Every cookie in the table above is required to keep the site secure or to let staff sign in, so both buttons leave the same cookies in place.
We still record your answer, because it is a real instruction to us. If we ever add something optional — website analytics, an embedded video player, a social media widget — it will only load for people who chose Accept. Choosing Essential only means we never load it for you.
Change your choice
Your current setting on this device:
You can also remove cookies yourself at any time through your browser’s settings — usually under Privacy, Cookies, or Site data. Blocking the Cloudflare security cookies may mean you are asked to pass a security check more often.
Other services on this site
- Google Fonts — our typefaces load from Google’s font servers. Google does not set cookies for this, but its servers do receive your IP address and browser type in order to send the font files.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — a privacy-focused “are you human?” check on our sign-up form. It was designed as an alternative to CAPTCHA and does not track you across other websites.
- GiveSmart — our Donate button hands you off to GiveSmart’s secure donation form on their own website. Once you are there, their privacy and cookie policies apply, not ours.
If you join our email list
We store the email address you give us so we can send you news about the Center. We do not sell or rent it, and every message includes an unsubscribe link. Ask us to delete your address at any time and we will.
